Retreat \Re-treat”\, n.
A place affording peace, quiet, privacy,
seclusion, retirement or solitude.
“I really wanted it to feel
warm, cozy and cottagey.”
—The Home Owner, Laurie, quoted during
an interview for a Coastal Living article
A new stair location with new materials and detailing brightens and revives a forgotten entrance.
The original door was hidden in a dark corner — moving the stair infused the entry with light and a view of the two principal entrances opening on opposite sides of the space.
The new main entry has a cozy fire and space to greet guests warmly.
The great room is the central gathering space for friends and family, the perfect place to curl up by the fire.
A plain interior is reconceived with a more inviting palette of colors, materials and special relationship.
By removing the enclosing walls the once dark and isolated kitchen joins the great room and family life.
The original galley kitchen was bisected by a hall to the front entrance and powder room that consumed valuable work area and congested the space with traffic.
The great room has two eating areas. Each has its own way of relating to the deck and waterfront beyond. With the enormous doors slid completely open, the table almost feels like it’s outside.
“We don’t need visitors to enjoy the
guesthouse, sometimes we wander down from the main house just to savor
a glass of wine or watch the sunset — we love spending time in this place
so much.”
—The Home Owner, Laurie, quoted during an interview for a Coastal
Living article
